Matt Harrington, Communications Specialist

As part of CPAR’s rural transit grant, I provide expertise in Title VI Civil Rights compliance for 58 rural transit agencies in Nebraska. I write and update plans for agencies; educate drivers and managers through training presentations; and assist Nebraska Department of Transportation staff on Title VI site visits. I also run the Twitter and Facebook accounts for Nebraska Public Transit; set-up Facebook accounts for rural transit agencies; and aide managers in promoting their agencies services online and through traditional methods. I collaborate with the Mobility Management team to ensure our two grant projects make efficient use of our resources and expertise in promoting transit throughout Nebraska. As part of our Technology Team, I test updates, work with agencies to resolve problems, and coordinate requests from other teams Education and Credentials B.A. History and Political Science, University of Nebraska - Lincoln (2011) M.A. History, University of Nebraska at Omaha (2013) |

How do you prioritize at work? |
I try to split big projects into small pieces and work on them over time, and make sure that if there is a deadline upcoming I have the time and resources necessary to meet it. |
What is your favorite recent project you worked on? |
In May and June 2021 I helped redesign Mobility Matters, a transit newsletter for Nebraska. We planned to only switch from an emailed PDF file to embedding the newsletter in the email, but once we shared our intentions the idea evolved. We were directed to incorporate two other transit-related newsletters into our product. The excitement, alongside the challenge, increased. Coordinating and collaborating with so many talented people was thrilling. I capped off the experience by creating a video explaining why we made these changes and how readers could access our newsletter. I am incredibly excited to get to work on the next edition, now that we are all a little wiser. |
Why Omaha? |
I grew up in Omaha and love the variety and combination of things I can do here. Catching a play or musical; attending the College World Series or Storm Chasers’ game; strolling through a world-class zoo; or take a short trip to Lincoln, Kansas City, Chicago, or Denver. |
Favorite Holiday? |
It used to be Halloween, but now that I am older its Thanksgiving. Still get fall weather most of the time, have an amazing meal, and most importantly get to spend time with family. |
