School Library Endorsement
School Library Programs
Degrees with a School Library Endorsement:
Candidates who already have a master's degree can add a school library endorsement for the purpose of directing a school library media program. The school library endorsement consists of 30 hours of library science, literacy and technology coursework.
Accreditation and Certification
The School Library program at UNO is currently accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the Nebraska State Department of Education. The program will seek Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) accreditation upon the next review cycle. In addition to national accreditation, the School Library program is nationally recognized by the American Library Association (ALA) through the American Association of School Librarians (AASL).
The MS degree in School Library allows UNO to recommend graduates for Nebraska state certification as School Librarians. In addition, candidates must pass the Praxis II – Library Media Specialists (5311) with a score of 151 or higher to meet state certification requirements.
