Educator Certification Options
Initial certification (licensure) in Nebraska is based on completion of an accredited teacher preparation program at a four-year teacher training institution. Candidates successfully completing the educator preparation program requirements at University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) are eligible to apply for a Nebraska certificate.
Individuals previously certified in another state should obtain application information from the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE).
If you already hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university you may earn a teaching certificate by completing the endorsement requirements for initial certification. The Teacher Academy Project (TAP) is an option for individuals interested in teaching in high demand areas (grades 7-12). The Accelerated Certification for Teachers Program (ACT) is the option for individuals interested in teaching grades K-6.
The College of Education offers graduate programs in Counseling; Educational Leadership; Health, Physical Education and Recreation; Special Education and Communication Disorders; and Teacher Education.
The College of Education offers more than 35 endorsements that can be added at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
The University of Nebraska Omaha does not offer an alternative certification program.
