Occupations in the sports medicine realm are among the fastest growing within the healthcare industry. To meet the needs and prepare students for careers in these occupations, exposing students who may have interest in this area to basic content knowledge is paramount. This minor is for students outside the Kinesiology major, yet have an interest in potentially pursuing a career or advanced studies within the sports medicine field. Students who obtain the sports medicine minor will be exposed to content related to the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of sport-related injuries and illnesses.
Public Health is a discipline centered on solving complex health problems via community-based and systems-level approaches. Public health practitioners address the social determinants of health that lead to inequity and engage in advocacy to eliminate health disparities to ensure healthy populations. A minor in Public Health will introduce students to foundational knowledge and practices that can be applied to a variety of health and community related issues.
