Research and creative activity designed to enhance our community and beyond.
The School of Health and Kinesiology (H&K) is dedicated to the vitality of scholarly activity. H&K supports a thriving research and creative activity agenda focused on creating better healthy living opportunities for all.
Exercise Physiology Lab
Funded primarily by the Department of Defense, the Exercise Physiology Lab's research is used to help soldiers in the field with a focus on improving athletic and muscular endurance and performance in extreme climates. Specific weather conditions can be recreated in the lab's Environmental Chamber—a specially-designed room with controls for temperature, humidity, and altitude.
Community services include: laboratory fitness assessments using state of the art research equipment, and the Adult Fitness Program, an instructor-led group class that offers specialized exercise to adults who want to maintain quality of life and independent lifestyle but struggle with physical challenges like obesity, mobility changes, advanced age, or rehab situations.
Midlands Sexual Health Research Collaborative (MSHRC)
The MSHRC conducts innovative research, provides evidence-based education, mentors students and sexual health professionals, and engages the community in initiatives to support sexual health and wellbeing.

Vascular Research Lab
The UNO Vascular Research Lab has a long-standing interest in the manifestation of vascular dysfunction in aging and disease. Specifically, the faculty and students study the mechanisms underlying diseases that include atherosclerosis, such as peripheral vascular diseases. Some of these mechanisms of focus include the roles of mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress in healthy aging and aging-related diseases such as peripheral artery disease, heart failure, and hypertension.
