Girls, Inc. Community Service Project
Girls, Inc. Omaha serves hundreds of girls every day, helping them to become inspired to be “strong, smart and bold.” The Physical Activity and Health Promotion department is joining with Girls, Inc. and other community partners to promote physical activity through an after-school walking program called Step It Up.
The Step It Up program encourages girls to increase the number of steps they accumulate while at the Girls, Inc. facility three days each week. PAHP students will work with teen leaders to promote more activity through walking and other physical activities such as Zumba and martial arts classes. The girls participating in the program will set goals for their teams, decide on appropriate incentives and log the steps walked. UNO students will help by providing guidance on the program design, assisting with data collection, and providing ideas for physical activities.
