Pitch Competition and Networking Dinner
Semester Kick Off Event
An event that happens every semester, students enrolled in the Professional Selling course experience an evening of competition, conversation with partners, and listen to a great guest speaker. Grown from our first competition, we have expanded from classroom to full event.
Starting off the night, students participate in a 1st round 60 to 90 second pitch. Their task is to express to our Sponsor Company why they would be a beneficial hire for a manager training program in the Omaha location. Successful students have an attention-getting introduction and provide evidence of why they would be a great addition to the team.
Great pitches are UNIQUE to each student. Some tell a story that highlights a skill or ability. Some describe the ideal candidate and then outline what experiences make them that candidate. Some are funny. Some are moving. Some are hard-hitting. A small selection of students even sung or danced to grab the attention of the judges and stand out among their peers – although that isn’t a standard.
With the completion of 1st round, students and partners alike gather in the atrium to network over dinner. Candid conversations about careers and work experiences provide insight to what the job of a salesperson is really like. After dinner, students who advance to the 2nd round break off from the group while the rest engage in a guest speaker. Once the winner is decided, awards and recognition are given to conclude the evening.
