Students showcase their business concepts at the 2015 Maverick Business Plan Competition
Omaha – Six finalists will pitch their innovative business ideas and compete for cash prizes during the fifth annual Maverick Business Plan Competition on Tuesday, April 14, 5:15–7:30 p.m. at the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s (UNO) Mammel Hall.
Hosted by the UNO College of Business Administration (CBA) and Center for Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Franchising (CIEF), the competition serves as a catalyst of creative new ventures, either for profit or social benefit.
The finals feature the top business plan submissions from members of UNO, the University of Nebraska Medical Center and Peter Kiewit Institute. This year’s finalists include:
-Erin Dabbs, Coffee Corner-Veronica Erdei, Scarlett & Violet Dog Apparel
-Chase Hiffernan, 100 Block Arts Center Yoga
-Molly Hobson, Unicorn Bay Bakery
-Anthony Raymond, Study Buddy
-James Selders, Old Fashioned Guerilla Art Gallery
Students will present to a panel of judges from the Omaha business community — including Robert Batt, executive vice president of Nebraska Furniture Mart; Jeff Gordman, director of Hayneedle Inc.; Suji Park, founder and CEO of Suji’s Cuisine; Eric TeKrony, MBA student and IT professional; and Amber Youngblut, human resources manager at Veridian Credit Union. Radio host and news personality Clint Bellows will serve as master of ceremonies.
Judges will weigh the proposals for their market opportunity, feasibility and social impact, awarding grand prizes of $3,000 for first place, $2,000 for second place and $1,000 for third place.
