Before entering the professoriate, Dr. File was in public accounting in the Houston office of Arthur Andersen & Co., as well as the Tulsa office of Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Company. His public accounting experience included serving education, oil and gas, real estate, agriculture, banking, and manufacturing clients. In private accounting, he was the Tax Manager of American National Insurance Company in Galveston. He has also served as a consultant and as an expert witness.
PhD (University of Texas at Austin) Professor File teaches Financial Accounting. His teaching interests include financial accounting, oil and gas accounting and taxation, accounting theory, and auditing. Most recently, in addition to Advanced Financial Accounting, he has taught Governmental and Not-for-Profit Accounting .
Research and Creative Interests
Professor File's interests include pedagogical and governmental and not-for-profit accounting research. His work is published in Contemporary Accounting Research, Auditing: A Journal of Practice & Theory, Research in Accounting Regulation, Advances in Accounting, Oil & Gas Tax Quarterly, Petroleum Accounting and Financial Management Journal, Journal of Petroleum Accounting, and in various ancillary materials for financial accounting texts.
Dr. File has served on numerous college and university committees. He is currently serving on the Douglas County Nebraska Audit Committee. He has also served as a member of the AICPA's Energy Taxation Committee, which acts as a liaison between the profession and the ABA, the IRS, and the Treasury.
