Arts & Sciences Hall Remodel Spring/Summer 2020
April 2, 2020
Construction on Arts & Sciences Hall is beginning the final phase of the project April 6, 2020. So far, the construction team has replaced the entire HVAC system in the building and upgraded many parts of the electrical system. While these systems cannot be seen, they will make the historic building function well for many years to come. They have also renovated the four restrooms on the East side of the building, installed new ceilings and lighting in the corridors on the first, second, and third floors, and installed new lighting and audio-visual systems, display boards, and paint in 12 classrooms. The classrooms that were completed in 2019 are 101, 143, 188, 211, 214, 215, 217, 279, 290, 292, 388 and 390.
The phase of construction that was scheduled to begin in May 2020 will start early this year due to UNO moving to remote-learning and the classrooms being unoccupied. This summer the construction team will finish the electrical upgrades to the building, renovate the four restrooms on the West side of the building, a new ceiling and lighting system in the fourth floor corridor, and the fire alarm system will also be upgraded throughout the building.
They will also install new lighting and audio-visual systems, display boards, and paint in the classrooms that were not renovated last year. The classrooms that will be receiving upgrades this summer are 100, 110, 112, 145, 148, 149, 150, 181, 210, 216, 241H, 300, 302, 306, 308, 310, 313, 378, 380, 384, 392, and 438. This work is already underway. The rooms that the contractors are working in are marked clearly on the doors as “Do not enter.” We ask that you respect the signs and stay out of all classrooms that the contractors are working in. Due to the early start time, they will be able to finish the classrooms sooner and allow everyone to have more time to practice the new technology before the fall semester begins this year.
The restroom renovations start on Monday, April 6, 2020. The contractors will close all four of the West restrooms. They will demolish the restrooms and build brand new restrooms similar in design to those on the East side of the building. During the restroom renovations the East restrooms renovated last year will serve as the only operational restrooms in the building. The second and third floors will be Women’s restrooms and the first and fourth floors will be Men’s Restrooms. Signage will be posted. Again, this work will be starting on Monday, April 6th.
The fourth floor ceiling will also get an upgrade this summer. This work will start Monday, April 13th. Due to potential overhead hazards, the fourth floor will be a closed ‘construction zone’ while the ceiling is down. This part of the project will take 3-4 weeks. If access is needed onto the fourth floor, please contact Randy Adkins (radkins@unomaha.edu) and he will make arrangements for the project manager to accompany you in the area.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
