Clare Maakestad (she/her/hers) currently serves as the Omaha AHEC Coordinator, working to help students enter health careers and healthcare professionals thrive in their careers. She earned an MA in Sociology 2017 and an interdisciplinary BA in Spanish, International Studies, and Latino/Latin American Studies in 2012, both from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Clare's graduate studies focused on medical sociology and anthropology as well as environmental sociology. Her research interests include ecological crisis and social theory. Clare has taught undergraduate courses on public health and sociology. Formerly, she worked in the UNO Office of Latino/Latin American Studies (OLLAS) coordinating short-term faculty-led study abroad programs, including those exploring healthcare-focused sites in Spanish-speaking countries, and working with community engagement initatives involving the Latinx population in the greater Omaha area. In her spare time, you can find Clare volunteering in community gardens or spending time with her cat Fidelia.
