“If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart.” –Nelson Mandela

Languages represent the voices of your friends, your neighbors, and your colleagues. They document life, literature, governments, history, economics, and cultures, and they allow you to become a knowledgeable and sophisticated citizen of the world, as well as a successful business person or entrepreneur.

The goal of UNO's Department of Foreign Languages and Literature is to provide students with the linguistic and cultural proficiency required of a global education.

Language study at UNO provides a myriad of opportunities to use the language you are studying both within the classroom as well as outside of the classroom through study abroad opportunities and engagement in the Omaha community. Award-winning faculty, small class sizes, technology-enhanced curricula, and opportunities to connect to other students characterize our programs.  Courses in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature aim to support students' development of the linguistic and cultural competencies required of a global education.  Language study at UNO provides a myriad of opportunities to use the language you are studying both within the classroom and in the community.

If you are interested developing your linguistic skills as well as an international perspective, the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature is the right choice for you.
