Q: How would you describe the work environment at BAT Logistics?
A: BAT Logistics prides itself on the environment we set fourth for our employees. We are very family oriented, and keep the atmosphere very light and fun, and the work still gets done. We know that if we treat our employees like royalty, they will look at the company and their work the same way. It’s a win/win all around.
Q: Do you offer internships? If so, what experience can interns gain from working with your company?
A: We do offer internships and the experience gained can vary. An intern would learn the ins and outs of transportation and what it takes to be a broker. Depending on the length of internship, an employee would be able to view all sections of the business and develop their skills to master a specific job or skill.
Q: In what ways does BAT Logistics give back to the community of Omaha?
A: BAT loves to get involved in the Omaha community. We donate financially to local charities including the Food Bank of the Heartland, local veteran associations, and local churches that help support mission trips.
Q: Are there specific majors you like to hire? Please explain.
A: We look at a variety of majors, but not for specific ones. Certain majors that have been successful at BAT have included, but are not limited to, Business Management, Marketing, and Communication.
Q: Any advice you would give applicants during hiring the process?
A: Be yourself, have fun in the interviews, and don’t come in scripted. When someone sounds too overly prepared for an interview it takes away from their personality. Let yourself shine. And ask questions!! Use the interview and hiring process to get to know the company you are seeking employment with and what they want from their employees. Get to know your interviewer as well, and what keeps them at the company. That could be your deciding factor between multiple offers, or their deciding factor between multiple candidates.
Q: When you are looking at a resume, what do you look for first?
A: Background, whether school or work experience. What has an individual done before and accomplished
Q: How long does the hiring process at BAT Logistics take from the time a job is posted?
A: The hiring process at BAT varies between positions. From the time an applicant applies for a job, if qualified, it’s about 2 days before they are invited in for a first interview. Within 2-4 days of the first interview, if qualified, they are invited back in for a 2nd interview and shadow. From there a position with BAT could be offered within the week, depending on other candidates that are being screened for the same position as well.
Q: Is there a time of year that you typically hire?
Q: What different products and items do you transport, and where to?
A: We transport a variety of products ranging from dry food to frozen meat, paint, building materials, we ship vehicles and other machines and equipment, plastic, soil and mulch, retail goods, and so much more. We ship mainly in the continental United States, with a small portion of business shipping to or from Canada. We have shipped to Puerto Rico before, but not consistently.
Q: If you could pick one reason why you love your company, what would it be and why?A: Wow, just one reason why I love BAT…. I would have to say the way BAT treats its employees. I truly have the autonomy to make decisions in my job and for the company, and always feel trusted. Even when the decision may not have been the best one, the company has always guided and trained me to have the additional information needed to make the decision better the next time… and let me go to keep doing it vs. holding me back. And when the decisions have been on point, you are praised and rewarded for them. The perks of being a BAT are pretty great too. There are lots of intangible benefits ranging from company dinners, contests, family outings, parties, and so much more. I truly love what I do and who I do it for. And as long as I take care of BAT, I know that BAT will always take care of me, and it’s been that way since I started with the company 4 years ago.
