Placement Test Cut Scores

MPE = Mathematics Placement Exam
CRE = Calculus Readiness Exam

MPE:

    1 - 8 ........................................... placement of "1"

    9 - 16 ......................................... placement of "2"
        Math 1310, 1530
        Intermediate Algebra or
        Introduction to Applied Probability and Statistics

        College Algebra,
        Trigonometry or
        Algebra and Trigonometry for Calculus

CRE:

  1. There are two sections to the CRE. The first section (Questions 1-17) is over algebra. A student wanting to test into Math 1930 (Calculus for the Mgr Life and Social Sciences) is required to take only this portion. The second portion (Questions 18-30) is over trigonometry. A student wanting to test into Math 1950 (Calculus I) is required to take both portions and score sufficiently on both.

  2. If a student takes both portions, they will be scored separately on the two and will be given placement accordingly.
    Part I only:
    1 - 9 place into 1320, 1330, 1340 (level 3 placement)
    10 - 17 place into 1930 or enroll in Math 1950 AFTER completing 1330 (level 5 placement)

    Part I and Part II together:
    Part I ... 10 or higher and Part II .... 7 or higher = placement of "6" (Math 1950)
    Part I ... 10 or higher and Part II .... 6 or lower = placement of "5" (Math 1950 AFTER Math 1330)
    Part I ..... 9 or lower and Part II ..... 7 or higher = placement of "4" (Math 1950 AFTER Math 1320)
    Part I ..... 9 or lower and Part II ..... 6 or lower = placement of "3" (Math 1950 AFTER Math 1320 AND Math 1330)

MPE scores are valid for two years after the test date. After this time, the student must take the MPE or CRE (Calculus Readiness Exam) to receive placement for enrollment in a mathematics course. Students who have not taken the ACT, or those who took it more than five years ago, must take the MPE or CRE.
Any student may challenge their ACT placement by taking the MPE or CRE.

MPE scores from UNL cannot be used.
