C*-algebras of Directed and Higher-rank Graphs

ABSTRACT:
Graph C*-algebras are C*-algebras formed from generators and relations associated to a directed graph.  Many properties of the graph C*-algebra, such as ideal structure and K-theory can be determined by the properties of the underlying graph.  Since many types of C*-algebras are also graph C*-algebras, the combinatorial properties of graph C*-algebras make them extremely useful for creating examples and studying C*-algebras in general.  In this talk, we will give a brief introduction to graph C*-algebras and discuss some generalizations of graph C*-algebras.  In particular, we will introduce higher-rank graphs, a higher dimensional analogue of a directed graph, and discuss how the C*-algebras associated to higher-rank graphs differ from graph C*-algebras.
