MAT Program
The latest research article to appear for an MAT student is the following:
Athletics and Academics: Are They Compatible? By Mark Stegman,
Westside High School with Larry J. Stephens, appeared in The High School
Magazine, Volume 7, Number 6, February 2000. Mark received his MAT in
1996.
Two papers currently under submission by 2000 MAT graduates are:
- 1.
- A Comparison of Teaching Seventh Grade Pre-Algebra Using
Manipulatives with the Traditional Method of Lecture by Brooke. Hartnett
and Larry J. Stephens submitted to the International Journal of Mathematical
Education in Science and Technology.

- The Effect of Interscholastic Sports Participation on the
Academic Achievement of Middle School Students by Laura Schaben and Larry
J. Stephens submitted to The Middle School Journal.
Two studies by current MAT students that are under way are:

- Music and Mathematics by Rachel Mathenia.
- 2.
- The Effect of Using Maple when Teaching Algebra to Seventh and
Eighth Graders by Elizabeth Wessling.
