Kick Butts Day at UNO, March 31, 2004

Eta Sigma Gamma a health education honorary, is once again sponsoring Kick Butts Day on March 31. This is the ninth anniversary of national Kick Butts Day which is the Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids' annual celebration of youth leadership and activism related to tobacco issues.

Anyone who wishes to participate can meet at 10:00 a.m. on South Campus in front of Scott Hall. The group we will walk with the Kick Butts Day Banner to Milo Bail Student Center where an ashtray sculpture created by Jamie Burmeister will be on display and quit smoking materials will be handed out.

In Nebraska 2,400 adults die each year from their own smoking and about two to three hundred adults, children, & babies die each year from others' smoking (secondhand smoke & pregnancy smoking). In addition, smoking contributes to many fires which cause additional injuries and deaths.

David Corbin, Eta Sigma Gamma sponsor, said: "Tobacco is the number one preventable cause of death in the United States. Seventy to eighty percent of smokers want to quit. Kick Butts Day is a day to lend support to all of those who wish to quit smoking."
