Selection Process

In order to be considered for selection, candidates must first be nominated by a UNO faculty/staff member, Avenue Scholars staff member, K-12 school faculty/staff member, or a community partner/organization staff member. Along with the required nomination form, candidates must submit an essay that outlines their background and educational goals, as well as a letter of recommendation from the individual they are being nominated by. UNO Young Scholars Nomination Form and Essay Information

The strongest consideration will be given to candidates who meet the following criteria:

  • Demonstrated financial need but are not eligible for Pell Grant funding
  • First-generation college student
  • Graduate of Omaha metro area high schools
