Leaders' Meeting
Tuesday, May 8th (7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.)
This meeting is for individuals that have an interest in leading trips and want to be an Outdoor Venture Center Leader. The meeting will be held in the HPER building, room 116. Agenda includes general news, conferring the Spring Schedule, Planning the Summer Schedule, and a training topic.

Outdoor Emergency Care
Classroom Sessions: Thursdays, August 16th – December 6 (6:30 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.)
Practical Exam: Saturday, November 17th (8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.)
Written Exam: Thursday, November 29th (6:30 p.m.)
Make-up Exam: Thursday, December 6th (6:30 p.m.)
Outdoor Emergency Care goes far beyond basic first aid and also provides certification by the National Ski Patrol. This class is intended for prospective ski patrollers, but outdoor enthusiasts will find it very useful as well as. Subjects covered will include an overview of human anatomy & physiology, patient assessment, soft and hard tissue injuries, environmental illness and injuries, sudden illnesses, triage, and accident management & evacuation. This class does not include CPR for the Professional Rescuer, but it is required for certification. You can take that class later in the fall through the OVC at a discount price. OVC Volunteer Trip Leaders and Mt. Crescent Ski Patrol Candidates receive a significant discount. Call the OVC to inquire about discounts or becoming a volunteer Mt. Crescent Ski Patroller, ask for Joel.

Backpacking and Orienteering Basics
Classroom Sessions: Thursdays, August 23rd - October 11th (7:05 – 9:45 p.m.)
Map & Compass Field Session: Saturday, September 15th
Optional Class Trip: Indian Cave State Park, Saturday and Sunday, September 29th – 30th
This class focuses on the basic requirements of food, clothing, shelter, and equipment for living comfortably in the outdoors. It will cover backpacking, camping, cooking, equipment (including stoves, tents, sleeping bags, etc), and trip planning. Participants will provide their own transportation to Hitchcock Nature Center for the map and compass field session. Price does not include Class Trip.
