Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC)
Thursdays: Aug. 16th – Dec. 6th (6:30 p.m. - 9:45 p.m.)
Practical Exam: Saturday, Nov. 17th (8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.)
The Outdoor Emergency Care class, offered by the National Ski Patrol, follows the same standards set forth by the U.S. Department of Transportation for EMT-Bs. This class is intended for outdoor enthusiasts as well as prospective ski patrollers. Subjects covered will include an overview of human anatomy and physiology, patient assessment, soft and hard tissue injuries, environmental illness and injuries, sudden illnesses, triage, accident management and evacuation, and long term care. A valid OEC certification requires a CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification. OVC Volunteer Trip Leaders and Mt. Crescent Ski Patrol candidates receive a significant discount. Call the OVC (ask for Joel) to inquire about discounts or becoming a volunteer Mt. Crescent Ski Patroller. HED credit available; ask Joel for details.
