HPER HPER Building - 1980
The construction of the $6.9 million Health, Physical Education and Recreation Building (HPER) began in 1977 and was completed in 1980. The150,000 square foot building housed the School of HPER and Campus Recreation. Some of the building features included a 50 meter swimming pool that accommodates 850 spectators, dance lab, golf/archery lab, a 1/10 mile jogging track, locker rooms, 12 racquetball courts, two large activity courts and a gymnastics gym.

Several changes took place over the next 25 years. Five of the racquetball courts were converted into a large weight room. The gymnastics gym was renovated into a multi-purpose area where group fitness classes were held, as well as, a new 28-foot climbing wall and boulder that was completed in 2004. At completion, the climbing wall was the largest in Omaha with 2,800 square feet of climbing area. An area for the Outdoor Venture Center Rental Center was also added to the Campus Recreation space.

HPER Building - 2012
The HPER building had a large addition and renovation project that has transformed the facility into one of the premier university recreation centers in the country.  New features include: 15,000 square feet of weight training and cardiovascular exercise equipment space, five activity courts, large hot tub/spa, new locker rooms, juice bar cafe, extended jogging track, fitness rooms, spinning room, social gathering spaces throughout the building and much more.
