The Use and Misuse of Statistics in the Real World: Some Examples

ABSTRACT:
Statistics has a role in many different areas in the real world: politics, law, media, and sports, to name just a few examples.  This talk aims to demonstrate some of the real world uses of statistics, as well as to highlight how statistics can be misused, either intentional or accidentally.

The emphasis of this talk will be to present and discus a series of examples rather than statistical theory.
