will give a talk on
ABSTRACT:
Most people are familiar with the concept of a CAT scan, or have even
experienced one themselves. What is much less well known is that there
is a lot of mathematics involved. A CAT scanner is not some kind of
fancy camera; the image is computed, pixel by pixel, from thousands of
measurements.
In this talk, I will given an overview of the underlying physics, the
resulting mathematical problem, and the numerical methods for solving
the problem.
