Abstract:
The speaker is a 2002-2003 ExxonMobil Project NExT Fellow, and attended a first workshop in Burlington, Vermont, on July 29-31, 2002. The talk is a report on topics and issues discussed during the workshop, with emphasis on some approaches to teaching presented in Burlington including: group projects in upper division courses, making precalculus/calculus meaningful, math modeling in the curriculum, technology in the classroom, research for undergraduate students. The Project NExT activities are organized by the MAA.
