Due in DSC 203 by 3 PM, Friday October 06, 2000

Given six numbers which satisfy the relations

(1)
         $\displaystyle y^2+yz+z^2=a^2$,
(2)
         $\displaystyle z^2+zx+x^2=b^2$,
(3)
         $\displaystyle x^2+xy+y^2=c^2$,
determine the sum x+y+z in terms of a,b,c. Give a geometric interpretation if the numbers are all positive.

Solutions, questions and/or comments should be directed to Judy Downey or Griff Elder
