In Memory - Paul Hulquist

Paul Hultquist, a past part-time instructor at UNO, died October 12, 2000. Dr. Hultquist was a Professor Emeritus from the University of Colorado at Boulder, retiring and moving to Omaha in 1988. Paul taught math classes at UNO for many years, and was the author of a popular textbook on Numerical Methods.

He was also a part-time consultant to Technical Support Inc., here in Omaha. He assisted with "anything and everything that we didn`t understand", including forward error correction algorithms, file compression and imaging algorithms. If you have been to the Nebraska Furniture Mart you may have seen a system which renders a fabric onto a 3-dimensional wire frame; Paul was instrumental in developing the 3-D graphics routines. He also assisted T.S.I. with error correction for a VBI receiver, which allows one to send data such as closed captioning over television signals, and more recently with customized variants of CCITT FAX compression for a specific type of image.

Paul was an active volunteer and past chairman for Bethphage Mission, and also a very earnest amateur radio hobbyist.
