pin   UNO Students place within the top 20% on Mathematics Competition
[Posted: Tuesday, April 6, 2010 ]
Last December, on a cold Saturday morning before Prep Week, 9 brave UNO students sat down to face the biggest of mathematical challenges, the William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition. Over Spring Break, their scores arrived. Daniel Miller (freshman) and Alex James (junior) scored within the top 20% of the 4036 students in Canada and the US that participated. Altogether, 5 students, including Melissa Emory, Brent Horky and Andrew Tew, placed within the top 50% of participants. As a result, UNO's Putnam Team placed within the top 21%. This is the best that we have done since 2003. A picture taken after the morning session can be seen below. Standing from left to right are: Adam Anderson, Logan Cullison, Daniel Miller, Julia Warnke, Alex James, Andrew Tew, Melissa Emory, Matthew Dickinson.
