Putnam Mathematical Competition. And it's a rebuilding year.
-
[Posted: Thursday, April 28, 2005 ]

On a cold December morning 5 stalwart souls rose early to face the greatest challenge in Collegiate Mathematics, the Putnam Mathematical Competition.
This is not for the weak of heart. Over 3,700 students from across the US and Canada take this exam each year. And the median score is usually ZERO!
This year Kodjo Togbey scored 9 points -- getting one problem essentially right, and scoring in the Top Third. Congratulations!

The Rocky Mountain Journal of Mathematics has accepted
Eric Manley's paper "On
Quadratic Solutions of
x4+py4=z4"
for publication. The paper is the result of a research
project completed under the supervision of Dr. Griff
Elder during the 2002-2003 school year. Eric was an
undergraduate mathematics and computer science major here
at UNO. He graduated in May of 2004 and will be
continuing his education in graduate school at the
University of Nebraska at Lincoln in the Fall.
Our intention is to present here the most
recent news on the faculty and the students in our
Department. As new items are added to the list, the older
ones are moved to the
Archive of
Headlines.
If you know about an event that should be mentioned
on this page, please write to Dora Matache
