Special Event

Chaos in Human Locomotion: Biological and Biomedical Applications

Presenter:
Max Kurz
School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation

When:
Thursday, October 28, 2004, 5:30-6:45PM

Where:
Durham Science Center 110

Topics to be discussed:

1. Noisy biorhythms and how they relate to health.

2. Choatic tools and how they can be used to discern differences in health and stability (Lyapunov Exponent, Fractals, Surrogation, etc.).

3. What has chaos informed us about in gait dynamics?

4. Modeling chaotic gait patterns via a passive dynamic walking model.

5. Using chaos as a control scheme for stable locomotion.
