Reilly named interim director. Professor Hugh Reilly has been named School of Communication interim director, Dean Gail F. Baker announced. Professor Jeremy Lipschultz has received a Faculty Development Fellowship for fall semester to write a book on social media and leaves the post after more than nine years. Lipschultz will return to teaching and research in January. He also continues as reviews editor for Journalism & Mass Communication Educator.

Chao receives award. Assistant Professor Chin-chung Chao is recipient of a $5,000 Faculty International Project Award for "Conflicts Over the Pinnacle Islands: Collective Identities Under Negotiation." The proposal explores communicative efforts of Japan, China, Taiwan and the United States in negotiation and reconstruction of national identities. Chao uses the realist paradigm and identity negotiation theory applied to content analyses of public documents and media reports.
