UNO PRSSA Brings Home Three National Awards from Salt Lake City

PRSSA UNO ChapterThe PRSSA chapter had an outstanding showing at the National Conference in Salt Lake City Nov. 10-14.

“Our chapter not only won first place in the National Organ Donor Awareness Competition ($400) as announced last April, UNO won first place in the National F.H. Teahan award in community and university service ($300) and third place in the PRSSA Ethics Advocacy Award $500 and $100 for faculty advisor,” Karen Weber said.

Publications officer Sally Gutschow, media relations director for the campaign “Licensed to Give We Card,” accepted the NODAC award on behalf of her teammates, graduates Erika Berg, Katie Curran, Katie Kassebaum and Sarah Legg.

Treasurer Audrey Klein accepted the Ethics Advocacy Award from the Betsy Plank Center for Leadership in Public Relations on behalf of the efforts of the PR Writing class who wrote and presented crisis communication plans in response to the crisis in the athletic department and the resignations of the vice chancellor and chancellor.

Former historian Jay Wood put together the Community Service Award entry book.

The team of Jasmyn LeFlore, Alex May, Jackie Normington and Stacy Seier did an outstanding job on their chapter development presentation, “PRSSA and Partnerships.”

“All six officers showed so much class, professionalism and enthusiasm – and they really made a name for themselves among conference attendees,” Weber said.

“This is fabulous news,” Interim Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs Sheri Rogers said. “Congratulations to all on these appropriate recognitions of your commitment to excellence!”

“The level of competition is very high, and many of the programs have more students and resources,” Dean Gail F. Baker noted. “However, none have more talent, dedication and determination than our students.”

More good news from the Nebraska state chapter of PRSA – UNO students won another Paper Anvil Award. The gala awards ceremony is Thursday, Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. “What an exciting week for you and your students,” Dean Baker said.
