The 53rd annual Communication Awards Banquet luncheon May 2 at the W.H. Thompson Alumni House featured recognition of current and past outstanding students.

Alumni Community Service Award went to philanthropist Richard Holland. Criminal Justice Professor Bill Wakefield was honored with the Distinguished Service Award for the annual London trip. Josie Loza, entertainment reporter at the Omaha World-Herald, received the Rising Star Award. Teresa Paulsen, vice president of corporate communication at ConAgra, was recognized with the Alumni Achievement Award.

Omaha World-Herald photographer Rudy Smith drew tears and cheers in his moving acceptance speech for the Lifetime Achievement Award. Smith also spoke to scholarship recipients at a Communication Week brunch for students and their families.
