Women Studies Major

The Women's Studies Major became available to UNO students in January 2001. The major offers all students a program focused on the experiences and knowledge of women. As a liberal arts degree, the B. A. in Women's Studies prepares students for a wide variety of career paths. It may be of particular interest to students planning careers in education, counseling or business, for example.

Requirements: The Women's Studies major requires two 3-hour introductory, interdisciplinary courses that cover the humanities (art history, philosophy, English, dance) and the social sciences (history, sociology, psychology), a 3-hour senior seminar that caps the Women's Studies experience, Sociology 2130: Basic Statistics, and twenty-one hours of electives, of which fifteen must be at the junior or senior level. Majors will work closely with the Director of Women's Studies to design programs of study to meet their goals. VERY IMPORTANT: Courses presented for credit toward a major or minor in Women's Studies must be approved by the program (see "courses" on this site for a list of approved courses) and must be taught by a Women's Studies faculty member (see "faculty" on this site).
