American Women's Literature
Ph.D., Indiana University, 1993
In addition to teaching gender theory to undergraduate students in English and offering two upper-division courses on "19th-Century American Women's Writing" and "Willa Cather," I regularly include works by women authors in my American Literature classes and lead my students to examine how these texts both reflect and interrogate the gender ideologies prevalent during their composition and first publication. In addition, I am working on a book about American Regionalist Fiction, 1860-1920, that analyzes how women authors from different races, classes, and regions wrote about marginalized peoples.
