My main area of interest involves the health status and health care of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) individuals. I am also interested in issues of sexual and gender identity and the social construction of identity categories. My current research focuses on self-identified lesbians in the Southeastern United States and their mental health and LGBTQ populations in Nebraska. I teach a number of courses, including Introduction to Sociology, Research Methods, Social Statistics, Medical Sociology and Sociology of Sexualities. I am an associate director of the Midlands Sexual Health Research Collaborative (http://www.unmc.edu/publichealth/mshrc.htm) and a member of the Professional Transgender Resource Network (http://ptrnnebraska.wordpress.com/).
