Together with the UNO Counseling Center, UNO Human Resources, the Women's Resource Center and the Gender and Sexual Orientation Agency, the Women's and Gender Studies Program is pleased to announce:

We are bringing educator/activist Ryan Sallans to campus twice during the week of October 24. Tuesday, October 25 at 11:30 a.m. is primarily for students (all are welcome) and one (Thursday, October 27 at noon) targets faculty and staff.  Please click on the dates to see the fliers for additional details. Both events are free and open to the public.


The Chancellor’s Commission on the Status of Women (CCSW) presents: The Annual Awards Luncheon: The unveiling of the 2nd Legendary Woman of UNO Award Recipient
When: Wednesday, March 30, 2011 from 11:30-1:00 p.m.
Where: The Milo Bail Student Center Ballroom
Thanks to the generosity of the Senior Vice Chancellor and the Office of Academic and Student Affairs, tickets cost $5 for staff, faculty, students, and the general public. Tickets are on sale at the MBSC Business Office (2nd Floor) until March 25, 2011. Tickets can also be purchased by phone at (402) 554.2979 or by e-mail to ghotaling@unomaha.edu.

 

Movie Showing: Blossoms of Fire
Thursday, March 31 at 6:00 p.m. located in Arts and Sciences 101
Discussion to follow, led by Dr. Maria Arbalaez. 2000, 74 min., Dir. Maureen Gosling. This
film celebrates the Zapotec women of Juchitan, Oaxaca, Mexico, who control a strong and independent society which accepts alternative gender roles.

 

Movie Showing: Dancer in the Dark

Thursday, April 14 at 6:00 p.m. located in Arts and Sciences 438

Discussion to follow, led by Dr. Kristin Girten and Dr. Tammie Kennedy. 2000, 140 min., Dir. Lars von Trier. A Czech immigrant, Selma (Bjork), comes to America with her son, hoping to earn enough money to fund an operation for him.

 

2011 UNO Women’s Walk

You are invited to join the UNO CCSW/ Women’s and Gender Studies/ Women’s Resource Center UNO Women’s Walk team.

When: Friday and Saturday, April 29th-30th, 2011. (This year's walk/5K run will begin at 9:30 am on April 30th in the UNO Sapp Fieldhouse.)

The UNO Women's Walk is the marquee fund-raiser for women's athletics at UNO.  The dollars raised from the Women's Walk provide scholarships for our female athletes. Our team raised $2250 last year; please help us reach this year's goal of $2500.

If you would like to join our walking or running team, please email Jody Neathery-Castro with your name, address, and phone number and she will add you to our growing list of walkers and send you further information about the team.  There are even walker incentives:
        > Raise $25 to earn a Women's Walk t-shirt
        > Raise $75 to earn a mini backpack
        > Raise $125 to earn a Women's Walk sweatshirt
        > Raise $400 to earn free admission to Friday night's keynote speaker, Olympic gold metal gymnast, Carly Patterson (plus $10 off a 2nd admission)
