The impact of Hurricane Katrina has had regional, national and international implications. Helene Quigley, a graduate student in the School of Communication at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO), fully understands that. Katrina became much more personal for her, though.
"You meet all of these wonderful people who have all come from the most traumatic situations," she said. "You just wonder what's going to happen to them." ...continue
Commencement Set for Dec. 16

The E-bill Is Coming!
Starting this January, students at UNO will no longer have to worry about their tuition bills getting lost in the mail.
The first round of E-bills, the billing statements for UNO student accounts, will be issued in conjunction with the start of the spring 2006 semester, which begins Jan. 9. The E-bills will be generated at the end of the first week of classes, said Tammy Goldsberry, manager of Cashiering/Student Accounts at UNO.
The E-bill will be made available for viewing and printing online in E-BRUNO, UNO's Web-based registration system. It will replace the paper bills UNO students receive in the mail.
When student bills are generated and available in E-BRUNO, the students will be notified via their Lotus Notes student e-mail accounts. They can then login to E-BRUNO and click on "View Billing Statement (E-Bill)." In addition, the e-mail notification will include helpful tips on reading the E-bill statement and making payments.
In addition to its convenience, the E-bill will enhance the security of managing student information, Goldsberry said. The e-mail notification will not include any sensitive information. Rather, it will contain a link to the E-BRUNO site so students can access their bills. All students must enter a student ID and PIN to gain access to the E-BRUNO site.
Also, the E-bills statement area on E-BRUNO will have links to archived copies of prior bills.
Students will be able to pay their E-bills online via credit card, or they can print the remittance form and either mail it in with the payment or pay it in person at the UNO Cashiering/Student Accounts Office in 109 Eppley Administration Building.
For more information, call Goldsberry at 554.2954, or visit the Web at http://cashiering.unomaha.edu.

Give the Gift that Helps Others This Holiday Season
As the UNO community prepares to celebrate another holiday season, its collective effort to help the University of New Orleans campus community continues.
Earlier this fall, students, staff and faculty at the Nebraska UNO launched the UNO to UNO Hurricane Relief Project, a sustained fund-raising effort aimed at providing relief to their colleagues at the Louisiana UNO.
All funds raised at the Nebraska UNO during the course of the year will be earmarked for a recovery fund established by Tim Ryan, chancellor of the Louisiana UNO, for members of his university community who lost everything.
In conjunction with the effort, UNO to UNO Hurricane Relief Project T-shirts can be purchased for $10 in University Affairs Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Adult sizes ranging from small to triple X are available. University Affairs is located in 108 Eppley Administration Building.

Four Mavs to Play in 2006 Cactus Bowl
Four Maverick seniors have been selected to play in the 2006 Cactus Bowl Jan. 6 in Kingsville, Texas, the most ever to represent UNO in the charity all-star game that showcases collegiate seniors from NCAA Division II programs.
Wide receiver Chris Denney, linebacker Taiwo Onatolu, offensive tackle Scot Jorgensen and running back Jamar Day will represent UNO in the game, which began in 1995.
Denney, from Norfolk, Neb., was UNO's leading receiver with 783 yards and eight touchdowns, and was named the most valuable receiver for a second straight year in the North Central Conference (NCC). He finished his career third in career receiving yards and touchdown receptions.
Onatolu, from Papillion, earned all-NCC first-team honors a third time this year. He was a 2004 D2Football.com first-team All-American. He finished third on the team in tackles and is the second all-team leader in tackles.
Jorgensen, from Minden, Neb., was a mainstay in the Mavs' offensive line and was named to the all-NCC first team this fall.
Day, from Lancaster, Calif., missed three games but still led the team in rushing with 755 yards and seven touchdowns to earn first-team all-NCC honors. Despite only playing two seasons and 19 total games, Day finished seventh in career rushing at UNO.
Last year, the Mavericks were represented by defensive lineman Corey Petersen, linebacker Randy Stella and offensive lineman Brett Hodge, the first time UNO had more than two players at the game.
