Multicultural Affairs to Sponsor Enrichment, Mentoring Workshops This Fall
The Office of Multicultural Affairs is sponsoring a series of enrichment and mentoring program workshops this fall.
The workshops, which are free to UNO students, will be held the first Tuesday of each month from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Milo Bail Student Center Gallery Room. The schedule is listed below.

MBSC First Floor Offices to Host Open House Sept. 7
It's time to get reacquainted.
Various offices on the first floor of the Milo Bail Student Center will host an open house Wednesday, Sept. 7. Free food will be available in each area from noon to 1 p.m.

UNO Technology Fair Sept. 7
Do you know what technology is available on your campus?
All interested students are invited to attend the UNO Technology Fair Wednesday, Sept. 7. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Milo Bail Student Center (MBSC) Nebraska Room.
Representatives from the UNO Bookstore, Information Technology Services (ITS) and University Library will be on hand to answer technology-related questions and demonstrate their services. Participants can register to win an iPod or a color printer (one entry per person; you need not be present to win) and other prizes.

SPO to Sponsor Drive-In Movie on South Campus Sept. 9
The Student Programming Organization will sponsor a drive-in movie Friday night, Sept. 9, on the south campus in parking lot 9 between The University of Nebraska Peter Kiewit Institute and Scott Village. The film, "Napoleon Dynamite," will be shown on a 24-foot inflatable movie screen starting at 9 p.m.

The UNO Office of the Ombudsperson announces its trio of ombudspersons for 2005. They are John McKenna, professor, UNO Department of English, 554.3328; Marti Rosen-Atherton, interim director, UNO Counseling Services, 554.2409; and Rebecca Wymer, library technician, University Library, 554.3638.
The office, established at UNO in 1970, receives and investigates complaints. Students, staff, faculty and administrators may request this service.

Phi Beta Sigma, Zeta Phi Beta to Assist with Money Management Workshop Sept. 10
Two Greek organizations at UNO, together with the Urban Financial Services Coalition of Omaha and the First National Loan Production Office, will present a free financial education workshop for citizens in the Omaha metro area Saturday, Sept. 10.
The event, "Money Management: A Path to Home Ownership," will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the Omaha Small Business Network, 2505 N. 24th St., Suite 112.
Members of the UNO chapters of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority will be among the presenters for the workshop sessions, which will focus on an introduction to banking services, how to choose and keep a checking account, how to keep track of your money, an introduction to credit, why you should save, learning investing basics, knowing what you're borrowing before you buy and learning what home ownership is all about.
"This workshop is just one example of the many community service activities conducted each year by students involved in Greek life at UNO," said Corey Stutte, an adviser in Student Organizations and Leadership Programs.
The morning sessions will be followed by a complimentary lunch and a question-and-answer session from noon to 1 p.m.
Those who pre-register for the event will be eligible to receive a free 3-in-1 credit report that can be analyzed by a banking professional. In addition, all registered attendees will be eligible to win one of three drawings for a prepaid Visa gift card in amounts of $75, $50 and $25.

Construction Notice for Crossroads Mall Shuttle Users
During construction of the Target Store at Crossroads Mall, the left turn lane from 72nd Street to the Crossroads Mall parking garage will be closed starting Tuesday, Sept. 6.
The closure is expected to last about two weeks. Individuals are asked to use the Cass street entrance to enter the parking garage. The UNO shuttles will continue to pick up and drop off at the southwest corner of the parking garage.

Fall Group Ex Schedule Under Way
Campus Recreation and the Wellness Stampede have teamed up to host a variety of Group Ex classes this fall at UNO. Classes are under way and run through Friday, Dec. 9.
All classes are held in the Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER) Building. Group Ex classes are free to all current students and Campus Recreation cardholders. Classes will not be held Sept. 5, Oct. 17-18 and Nov. 23-25.

Fall Hours Extended for Injury Prevention and Care Program
Campus Recreation's Injury Prevention and Care (IPC) Program has extended its hours for the fall semester. The new schedule, which will begin Wednesday, Sept. 7, is as follows:
Monday through Thursday
10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 9 p.m.
Friday
10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m.
Saturday
Noon to 5 p.m.
Sunday
Noon to 10 p.m.
IPC - located in 103 Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER) Building - provides education and assistance to all Campus Recreation cardholders for previous sports injuries. This service is free of charge.
The program offers first aid (wound care, band aids, ice bags and Ace wraps), injury evaluations (acute and chronic), emergency care, taping (students must supply tape), referral services (if necessary) and rehabilitation education.

The Moving Company, Campus Recreation to Sponsor Free Latin Dance Lessons This Fall; Dancers Sought for Company's 2005-06 Season
The Moving Company, UNO's modern dance performing group, is teaming up with Campus Recreation to offer free Latin dance lessons this fall.
The six-session series, which is open to the general public, will begin Sunday, Sept. 25, from 4 to 5 p.m. in the UNO Dance Lab, located in the Health, Physical Education and Recreation Building. Classes continue Oct. 2 and 9, and Nov. 6, 13 and 20.
The instructors are Marty Hebert and Matt Wells. You do not need to bring a partner to participate in the sessions.
To reserve a spot, call 554.2670 by Sept. 11. Reservations are recommended but not required.
The Moving Company is also seeking dancers of all ages, sizes and shapes for its 2005-06 season.
"In addition to performing modern dance choreography this year, we will be learning and choreographing Latin dances for a performance in February," said Josie Metal-Corbin, director of The Moving Company and a professor in the UNO School of Health, Physical Education.
Those interested in the company's modern dance classes and choreography are invited to attend an audition class Sunday, Sept. 11, at 4 p.m. in the UNO Dance Lab. You do not need to prepare a dance for the class.
For those interested in performing Latin dance in February, a meeting will be held Sunday, Sept. 11, at 5 p.m. in the UNO Dance Lab.

Facing East to Perform at UNO Sept. 13
The UNO Department of Music will host a performance by John Wubbenhorst's Facing East Tuesday, Sept. 13. The concert, featuring South Indian percussion masters Subash Chandran and Ganesh Kumar, will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Strauss Performing Arts Center Recital Hall.
Tickets are $12 for the general public, and $7 for students and seniors.
Facing East combines jazz with the classical music of East India and brings in other world elements, said Tomm Roland, coordinator of percussion studies and multicultural music at UNO. "John Wubbenhorst's unique compositions draw from these distinctively different music systems," he said.
