Fidelia JoAnne Lofton (who prefers JoAnne) joined University of Nebraska at Omaha in 1972 as a staff member in the Department of Gerontology. She spent 30 years with College of Public Affairs and Community Service (CPACS), serving as the Coordinator of Continuing Education and Interim Director. She witnessed dramatic changes at UNO, especially how the University addressed cultural and racial diversity on campus. To understand the cultural legacy of UNO over the years, one must understand the city that surrounds the University and the Civil Rights Movement. JoAnneās work in the Civil Rights movement and commitment to realizing these goals at UNO provides an intimate understanding of the transformations that have taken place.
