Job Placements:
Urban Studies graduates have been successful in finding employment. Many started their careers in local community development organizations and some graduates have taken positions in communities in other parts of Nebraska and in other states . Job titles include community development specialist, community planner, program manager, agency director, community services associate, and staff assistant.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration:
Graduate students are encouraged to take courses from other academic departments at UNO, such as Geography, Sociology, and Civil Engineering.
The interdisciplinary character of the urban studies field allows for interaction with a variety of faculty with interests in the urban environment.
Partnership with Community Organizations:
The program includes extensive service-learning components. Service learning is accomplished through applied research projects and internships. To fulfill that component of the program, partnerships with a number of local community development organizations and government agencies have been developed, including:
In addition to the organizations listed above, Urban Studies has worked with a number of community-based organizations, primarily neighborhood associations. Developing partnerships and assisting neighborhood groups is a logical extension for an urban-based program in community development such as UNO’s.
