The general prerequisite for admission to the Urban Studies program is a four-year bachelors' degree with a minimum of a 3.0 GPA of the junior-senior year (last 50-60 credit hours). Under extenuating circumstances an average below 3.0 will be considered. The following factors will be considered in determination of a student's admission statute:

• Grade point average for the junior-senior year
• Grade point average for the undergraduate degree
• Writing skills (based on the applicant's admissions essay)
• References (based on two written letters of recommendation)

New students are admitted to the program for the fall semester (spring admission is allowed only in exceptional circumstances and course availability in such cases is limited.)

Completing the application process is straightforward; the important steps are outlined below and links to required forms for supporting information are provided. 1. Graduate Application. There is a nonrefundable admissions fee of $45. Applications may be downloaded or completed online.
2. Two official transcripts from each college or university attended. Hand carried or student submitted credentials will not be accepted. Questions about transcripts should be directed to the Graduate Studies Office.

1. Resume.
2. Essay indicating how the Urban Studies program would assist in achieving your career goals (3-5 double-space pages).
3. Two letters of recommendation (letters may be addressed to Director of the Urban Studies Program). Letters should discuss your qualifications for a career in public service.
4. International students from countries where English is not the official language need to submit the results of their TOEFL exam.
5. Applicants at their option may take the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) if they think it may strengthen their admission status.
