First BIIG Meetings of the Academic Year 2008-09!
We are pleased to announce that our first BIIG meeting of the 2008 - 2009 academic year will be next Friday, September 26th, 2008. Our featured speaker will be Dr. Charles Wood, Director of the Nebraska Center for Virology, UNL. He will present on "Mother to Child transmission of HIV and associated virus in sub-Sahara Africa." See the abstract for more information on this topic.The meeting will be at the Peter Kiewit Institue, 67th & Pacific St., in room 279. Lunch will be provided beginning at 11:30a with the presentation to begin by 11:45a and the meeting to finish by 1:00p.

2008 NE-INBRE Scholars for Bioinformatics Announced
Congratulations to all our new NE-INBRE Scholars. Caleb Schmid, Julia Warnke, and Ximeng Zheng were chosen as the IS&T Scholars with Andrew Lescelius as one of the Dept. of Biology Scholars. J. Craig Venter Institute Presented on TIGR CMR, Thursday, April 3rd, 2008
Instructors from the J. Craig Venter Institute, JCVI, formerly TIGR, presented on the Comprehensive Microbial Resource. "Comprehensive Microbial Resource (CMR) is a free tool that allows researchers to access all of the publicly available bacterial genome sequences completed to date." There was a lecture in the morning with hands-on computer laboratory exercises in the afternoon.
Upcoming Area Bioinformatics Seminars and Conferences
The Eppley Insitute for Research in Cancer at UMNC has announced its Fall schedule of speakers. Seminars are held each Thurday from 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. in the Eppley Science Hall Amphitheater, room 3010, at UNMC. For more information, see the flyer.
Additionally, the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at UNMC has a list of its Fall speakers. These seminars are held every Monday at 4:00 p.m. in the DRC Amphitheater, room 1002, at UNMC. INBRE Annual Meeting in Grand Island
The INBRE Annual Meeting for 2008 was held in Grand Island on August 12th and 13th. All UNO NE-INBRE scholars presented on their summer research via a poster or oral presentation.
