UNO Certificate | Department of English | School of Communication |

Program Requirements

The Graduate Certificate in Technical Communication consists of 12 credit hours of core courses and one 3-credit hour elective course for a total of 15 credits and five courses. Although not required, we recommend applying for an internship especially if you have little or no work experience.

Students should be aware that most of the required courses will involve a significant amount of collaboration both with other students as well as possible outside clients. These collaboration projects are designed to expose students to the mutual negotiation of learning through practice. Upon completion of the five courses, student will be required to turn in a print or online portfolio representing the work they have completed in the five courses.

An undergraduate minor is currently in the proposal process. The minor will require the same 15 credits as the Graduate Certificate, but will also require a 3 credit internship or other similar project. The minor will be available to students currently pursuing undergraduate degrees in fields other than English or Communication.

Additionally, a certificate-in-course is also in the proposal process. This CiC will be similar in design to the Graduate Certificate, but will be available to undergraduate students in English or Communication as a part of their major degree requirements.
