Career Overview
In response to 21st century economic and technological developments, yesterday’s technical writers have become today’s technical communicators, even more capable of producing effective print documents and creating dynamic multimedia documents and websites. As both the need and the means to communicate technical information grows, these flexible and adaptable workers also expand their work to include more than the writing aspect of communication. Today’s technical communicators have become creative strategic contributors, working collaboratively with subject matter experts to manage information, broker communication, and identify and solve organizational product and process problems.
The Technical Communication Graduate Certificate program addresses these changes and reflects the creative, interactive and flexible work technical communicators perform today. Students gain experience and training in the classroom, through internships and through involvement in professional organizations, which helps build their communication competencies and prepares them for today’s collaborative and creative work environment. Graduates of the certificate program are a valuable source of employees for industry and governmental and educational organizations.
