Ever since Rolisha Davis wrote her first poem in high school, she knew she wanted to work with words. "I am a journalist," she says. "It comes so easily and naturally to me. It's who I always wanted to be."

The Omaha native has found plenty of ways to get the education and experience she needs at UNO. Besides taking writing classes, she's participated in the UNO Readers and Writers Workshop writing program.

When she graduates in 2007, Davis will be the first in her family to earn a college diploma — a privilege she takes seriously. The future journalist hopes to write for a black political magazine and someday maybe write a book.
