Building Communities
When Lorenzo Claxton began searching for graduate schools that offered programs in public administration, he knew he wanted to attend one of the best. His first choice – UNO. Claxton, who was raised by his grandparents in Greenville, Miss., was impressed by the program's national rankings and reputation among scholars.
He's working on a master of public administration and plans to pursue a Ph.D. in the field. "The professors here are very accessible, which I truly appreciate," Claxton said. He also cites the program's connection to the real world via internships as critical to the success of his educational experience.
The Tougaloo College graduate is currently interning with the City of Omaha in its Human Rights and Relations Department, which is charged with civil rights enforcement, contract compliance and community relations/discrimination prevention. Claxton's ultimate goal – serving as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development.
