Diversity Statement

We at the UNO Counseling Center are committed to providing a safe and welcoming experience to ALL students, faculty and staff who come through our doors. We believe that every person has the right to be treated with dignity and respect. Our staff regularly attend trainings and workshops to further our competency as it relates to issues of diversity. In addition, our staff serve on various committees on campus and provide important trainings in order to promote an accepting environment on our campus and in the community.

We recognize that students, faculty, and staff come from intersecting identities that include their ethnic/racial identity, gender, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, country of origin, age, socio-economic status, body shape/size, ability, religion/spirituality, and opinion/point of view. Our staff work to make sure each person we work with feels valued and appreciated for who they are. We also recognize that people who come to see us often struggle with issues related to diversity such as discrimination, acts of bias, feelings of non-acceptance and self-discovery. We will work to make sure each person feels safe and supported.
