Biography

April earned her BS in Family and Consumer Science in December of 2002. She spent the following year working as an Educator for Planned Parenthood and continuing her education in Family and Consumer Science in Lincoln. In August of 2004 she moved to Saint Joseph, Missourier, where she worked as a Family Assistant for Family Guidance Center. In the Fall of 2005 she returned to Omaha and entered the MSW Foundations program. Currently, she works part-time at Heartland Family Service with the Domestic Abuse Program and part-time for the Director of Social Work as a graduate assistant.

Job Responsibilities

As a graduate assistant, April provides support for the School by assisting with meetings and activities of the Executive Body and Advisory Committee; managing the School’s Student Handbook and website development; and assisting in other areas of administration and research.

Activities and Interests

April is a long-time activist/advocate for the Queer community. She was the President of GALO for a semester and has volunteered for the annual Pride Parade and the Rainbow Outreach Community Center. Two of her favorite activist moments were speaking at the UNO rally against Initiative 416 and attending the March for Women’s Lives in Washington, DC.
