Biography

After completing his MSW in India, Dr. D'Souza worked with the landless agricultural workers from the lower castes as a community organizer for two years, and then joined the Faculty of Social Work at the Madras School of Social Work in Madras, India.

After teaching in India for nearly five years, Dr. D'Souza immigrated to the United States in 1982 and completed his Ph.D. in Social Work and Sociology at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. During his doctoral studies, Dr. D'Souza was awarded the Council on Social Work Education Minority Fellowship and the University of Michigan Minority Fellowship. He joined the faculty of the University of Nebraska at Omaha School of Social Work in 1989.

Professional Specialties

Dr. D'Souza's research interests are justice, peace and poverty issues. He has collaborated with colleagues in researching mentoring programs for minorities, child protective services, sexual problems and sex education.

Teaching

Dr. D'Souza's teaching curriculum encompasses justice and social work; macro social work practice focused on social action and political advocacy; understanding and analysis of institutional oppression; and research methods.
