As the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) School of Social Work nears its 100th year, we reflect on the countless hours of hard work and dedication our students and faculty have devoted to the communities we serve. Over the years, the School of Social Work has grown into one of the leading social work education programs. Offering both bachelor (BSSW) and master (MSW) degree programs, the UNO School of Social Work is focused on fostering student growth and preparing students for the societal challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
As society demands services for individuals, families, and the community, the social work profession continues to be one of the fastest growing fields, evolving to meet varying societal demands. The UNO School of Social Work is proud to offer a program that provides students with the training and expertise needed to be effective social work professionals and community leaders.
The UNO School of Social Work has developed one of the nation’s leading service-learning programs for social work students. Our service-learning courses provide BSSW and MSW students with hands-on experience as they work directly within the community. Students graduate with the knowledge and experience that they need in order to transition from the academic to the workplace setting.
As of the Fall of 2006, the Master of Social Work (MSW) program offers two areas of academic concentration: Clinical Social Work Practice (CSWP) and Integrated Social Work Practice (ISWP). In an attempt to meet the needs of rural Nebraska, the UNO School of Social Work also offers an advanced standing MSW program in Kearney, Nebraska (Off-Campus MSW). Finally, the Master of Social Work and Master of Public Administration Dual Degree Program (MSW-MPA) provides an exceptional educational opportunity to students who are interested in serving our community within the broader public service sector.
Students may also complete the requirements of a Certificate in Gerontology specialization within their social work undergraduate or graduate degree program.
The UNO School of Social Work is an excellent place to further academic education. You will find it a warm and welcoming environment that supports your continued professional and personal growth.
